The processes going on as mentioned in post “Saving XML data directly to disk” got me thinking so I started testing. Why did the processes take 100% CPU time…? To be honest I still don’t know for sure (I suspect the assembling of the XML instance), because I am unsure if I didn’t mix up apples with oranges after all. I suspect there is maybe still an NLS conversion thing going on. I found the whole exercise interesting, also because it gave me a little bit more insight in the internals.

A week ago, someone had some problems with DBMS_XMLSCHEMA.PURGESCHEMA (available in Oracle 11g). In principle, the problem he had, was that a registered schema could not be deleted via the normal procedures/methods, or at least this was claimed to be the case…

The problem was solved via a very intuitive way (direct delete via a user view), but one I wouldn’t recommend PLUS it also raises some questions…(although I am still not sure how under what circumstances this was doable / which privileges used to make this happen)…

Have a look at the following OTN Forum post, regarding “Purgeschema“. A description of the view user_xml_schemas is shown below as a reference.

One of the problems I saw lately was mentioning binary XML encoding, so I was able to help out more specific on these issues then normally when issues arise on the XMLDB Forum.

Two of them caught my attention:

Both are issues are related to the same person, Christian Soutou. I am not really sure what he wants to achieve, but the discussions brought me some new insights.
